According to a report by Cycling Weekly, the Tour of Guangxi will be part of the UCI World Tour in 2017. It has already been announced that the World Tour has been extended to 37 races but the Chinese race could also be added.
The Tour of Guangxi takes place in the southern region of Guangxi and lasts six days. In addition to the men's race, there will also be an event for women. The organizers are Wanda Sports Group, a major company which has previously been interested in buying up the three grand tours.
The Tour of Guangxi will be held at the end of the season after Il Lombardia. In the last two seasons, the Abu Dhabi Tour was the final stage race on the calendar but that race will be moved to February and join the WorldTour. It will be the second Chinese race in the WorldTour. From 2011 to 2014, the Tour of Beijing was the final event on the calendar.
