According to a report in De Telegraaf, the future looks bad for the Astana team. A UCI source has told the Dutch newpaper that the Kazakh team will have its WorldTour license revoked this week.
The decision has not yet been confirmed by the UCI. It is expected that the global federation will make the announcement next Thursday. According to De Telegraaf, the license commission already made the decisiom on March 20. Due to several doping cases, the commission has been asked to reconsider their decision to grant the team a license.
Losiung the WorldTour license will have major implications for the team of team manager Alexander Vinokourov. They will have to drop down to continental level and reduce their roster to a maximum of 16 riders. They will have to be registered in the country of the majority of their riders which is currently Italy. The team will be unable to participate in WorldTour races and can only do .HC races in their home country.
