Davide Rebellin may be 44 years of age but he is still able to mix it up with the best. Today he got close to a big victory when he finished second on stage 2 of the Tour du Limousin.
Davide Rebellin recently stated his intentions to rejoin the WorldTour but so far no one has shown any interest in signing the 44-year-old. Today, however, he proved that he is still a very capable bike rider when he finished second in the uphill sprint on the second stage of the Tour du Limousin.
Afterwards, he lamented the near-miss as the sprint hadn't panned out in the way he hoped.
"I'm still happy with the result," he said. "My legs are pretty good right now. It's a shame, because I was a little boxed in the sprint. I did not find the space to launch my sprint. That said, I do not know if I could have won... The finish was very good for me.
"The goal at the start was to win at least one stage. Today I didn't manage to do so.. We will try again tomorrow, the finale should suit me.
"I'll still be a professional rider next year. For now, I have no contact with a new team. So if it continues in that way, I will stay with my current team."
