German-Danish pair Marcel Kalz / Alex Rasmussen (SWB) have taken the overall lead after the first day of the 51st Six Days of Bremen. However, four teams are on the same lap, meaning that all is still to play for. Surprisingly Nick Stöpler / Nico Heßlich t(Schmidt & Koch) are second with a points tally of 45 points, ahead of the French-Danish pair Morgan Kneisky/Jesper Mørkøv (Leasing e-bike) who had taken the lead after the first madison. "Nothing is decided yet," said sporting director Erik Weispfennig. "But some of the favorites have already put themselves in a good position."

Weispfennig had to get through a few moments of fear on the opening day. First the race doctor had to send Spaniard David Muntaner Juaneda back to the hotel due to a gastrointestinal infection, meaning that the team of the world champions had to be neutralized. A bad crash for Christian Grasmann just before the end of the big madison luckily had no severe consequences for the German. With a few abrasions, he got bad on his bike and alongside partner Marc Hester he continued as if nothing had happened. Later Grasmann even won the Derny race to score important points for his team which ended the day in fifth place, in the same lap as Kalz/Rasmussen.
