The fear of Limburg deputy Ger Koopmans that Tour de France organizers ASO will not allow their race to return to the Netherlands, appears to be true. In an interview with L1, Koopmans revelared that Tour director Christian Prudhomme does not intend to return to the Netherlands in the near future which makes a stage in Limburg highly uncertain.
The National Federation KNWU is asking for a compensation of 140,000 euros from ASO for hosting the Grand Depart, but the latter refuses to pay. ASO has never agreed to pay that amount and KNWU has now taken the case to the UCI. Limburg now seems to be the victim.Early this year the province made a bid to host a stage in the future.
In a press release, the National Federation has claimed that ASO already in December knew the amount of the fee, but it has never been paid. "First ASO let us no that they didn't want to pay anything," read the press release. "Then ASO changed that decision, but did indicate that the amount was too big."
The National Federation claims that they made their last request on August 13 but has not received a response.
