Being one of the nations allowed to line up at the World Championship road race with six-man rosters, Portugal and Austria have announced their final selections for the event held on September 28 in Ponferrada.
Portuguese Rui Costa (Lampre-Merida) will be backed by proven climbers and domestiques in his attempt to defend his championship title, as riders like Andre Cardoso (Garmin-Sharp), Jose Mendes, Tiago Machado (NetApp – Endura), national champion Nelson Oliveira (Lampre-Merida) and Sergio Paulinho (Tinkoff-Saxo) have made the final cut.
Austrian national team for World Championships also has been announced on Tuesday, in which in-form Matthias Brändle (IAM Cycling) will be joined by Bernard Eisel (Team Sky), Marco Haller (Katusha), Patrick Konrad (NetApp-Endura), Georg Preidler (Giant-Shimano) and Riccardo Zoidl (Trek Factory Racing).
