According to Dutch media Wout Poels came to final agreement with Team Sky and signed a contract with the British team after just one year spent at the Omega Pharma – Quick Step.
The 26-year old Dutchman made some suggestion early this season that he would be searching for another squad to continue his professional career with, as he wanted to be provided with more chances to chase his own success.
While the former Vacansoleil-DCM rider eventually managed to bounce back after a terrible crash he suffered during the 2012 edition of the Tour de France and took a stage victory at the Vuelta a Burgos, his main responsibility at the Belgian squad remained supporting Rigoberto Uran in his GC ambitions.
Tying a knot with Team Sky can be hardly regarded the wisest possible move for someone eager to start riding for his own. However, Poels said that he received an offer he was unable to resist while asked about his reasons to leave Omega Pharma – Quick Step even though team management was open about their will to keep him on board.
Even though De telegraaf informed that the contract has been already signed, the parties are yet to make an official announcement. If it happens, the 26-year old climber will become the first Dutchman riding for the Team Sky.
