After crashing out of the Criterium du Duaphiné with a broken metacarpal, Jerome Pineau has undergone successful surgery. The Frenchman still hopes to be ready for the Tour de France.
Victim of a heavy crash early in the fifth stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré, Jérôme Pineau has successfully undergone surgery at the University Hospitals of Geneve (HUG) to mend the fracture of his fifth metacarpal in his left hand. Pineau underwent the surgery on Friday by the hand specialist center of HUG. Afterward, the French IAM Cycling rider still managed to join and encourage his teammates at the team hotel on the eve of the two decisive stages in the French race organized by the ASO.
Having returned to his home Saturday morning, Jérôme Pineau may already have been able to get on his home trainer yesterday in order to maintain his condition. If everything goes well, Sylvain Chavanel’s faithful lieutenant can be on the road within ten days, and his potential selection for the Tour de France will be evaluated after this decisive period.
