Franco Pellizotti was in tears as he tried to swallow the disappointment of second place on the Zoncolan:
"I wanted to do well, but God does not want me to get the victory. If I had won it would have been the happiest day of my career. I wanted to win for the many fans who came to support me, but it was not possible. Too bad. "
However, Pellizotti can take some pride from his gutsy ride as it lifted him up to twelfth overall, some consolation for Androni-Giocattoli, who will now be winless for a second straight Giro after winning stages in the previous seven.
