Yesterday no one could match Van Aert in Essen and today Van der Poel crushed his rivals in Overijse. "It's always decided right from the start," sighs Kevin Pauwels who was twice on the podium this weekend but is still looking for a first win.
Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel continue to dominate the cyclocross season. The world champion has 10 wins and his rival has 11. The other riders only seem to have a chance when the two stars are not at the start.
Is it still fun, Sporza asked Kevin Pauwels."Less than before. It is always full gas on the first lap. If you are isolated, it is over from the start."
Sven Nys dominated the sport but his rivals could win occasionally.
"Those two ride a level higher than Sven. I think I'm pretty good, but they are still one step above.
"I always hope that it is sometimes less fast in the beginning. But yesterday Wout again rode full gas in the first lap and now it was Mathieu. Then you are soon on your own. Today I tried to hang on but I quickly felt that the course was too tough for that.”
