Kevin Pauwels won the final race of the Superprestige series but as Mathieu van der Poel managed to pass Wout van Aert to take second, he missed out on the overall victory by a single point.
"I may never again get such an opportunity like today to win the Superprestige," he told Sporza. "I felt very good, but in the sand I made an occasional mistake due to fatigue. In the end, Mathieu came close and I had to dig deep.
"On the pit I saw that Mathieu had dropped Wout. That was a setback. I may have won today but it is unfortunate that Wout was not stronger."
