Despite not being included in the provisional list of teams who had applied for UCI Pro Continental licences, ONE Pro Cycling are still confident they will be moved up a level in 2016.
"It was a bit of a surprise to us," said team manager Becky Frewing when they woke to the news in Spain. "But we are still confident. The UCI have been helpful to us, they support the idea of having a British Pro Continental team."
The team has told Cyclingnews that the reason they weren’t on the list was due to a paperwork mistake. Lots of documents need to be submitted before a team can move up a level, and ONE submitted a photocopy of a document rather than its original, and that is the reason for the hold-up.
The team is owned by ex England cricketer Matt Prior and they have made some big signings, like talented riders Steele Von Hoff and James Oram. They will find out on October 20, when the UCI make their final decision, if they will be in cycling’s second tier or not.
