Sven Nys will not be at the start of the Druivencross in Overijse later this afternoon. The veteran feels that he was treated disrespectfully last year. Back then, he had to withdraw and then wasn't paid in full bu the organizers. "I am extremely disappointed in the way the organizer treated me last year," he told Sporza.
"I just experienced a physical low, felt miserable. I still started out of respect but in the end I had to withdraw," Nys said. "Two days later I was told that the organizer would only pay a third of my contract.Just like that, without warning. I know they were allowed to do so but I think that is totally disrespectful."
Nys has six wins in the race on his palmares.
"The money doesn't really concern me," said the 39-year-old. "But for 15 years, I have done the race in Brabant. I have attracted many people to the race and to Overijse. It would have been completely different if the organizers had called me to discuss it. Now I find that action from last year really bad."
