A race like Volta ao Algarve, with great viibility in Portugal and in the World, has more social responsabilities than a simple event. In the 42nd edition of the race (February17-21 ) the organizers want to transmit a message of hope in the fight against diabetes. Therefor Team Novo Nordisk have been invited to prove that diabetes can’t stop the dreams and the willpower.
It will be the first time for Team Novo Nordisk in the Volta ao Algarve, but the organizers are convinced that the eight riders chosen by Vassili Davidenko will inspire, educate and empower people affected by diabetes.
The Professional Continental Team will arrive in Algarve with riders from Belgium, Finland, France, Italy, Netherlands and Spain.
The roster is composed of Kevin De Mesmaeker, Nicolas Lefrançois, David Lozano, Javier Megías, Andrea Peron, Charles Planet, Joonas Henttala and Martijn Verschoor. Verschoor and Peron are expected to test themselves in the sprints while Megias and Lozano will try to have an impact on the results in the harder stages.
Knowing that sport is very important to prevent diabetes, the Portuguese Cycling Federation has decided to include the Algarve Granfondo in the program of the Volta ao Algarve. The goal is to have more and more people riding their bikes.
