“I will be tested in various roles, but in some of the .1 races after Kuurne, I will be asked to play my card. They trust me and want me to develop my sprint skills.

All neo-pros do not get a personal chance but Amund Grøndahl Jansen will have the opportunity to fully express his potential in 2017.

The young Norwegian, who was fifth at the U23 Worlds while leading out world champion Kristoffer Halvorsen, will be able to play his card a few times at LottoNL-Jumbo during his first season at the highest level. The leaders of the Dutch team will give responsibilities to the Norwegian U23 champion in the spring. Because of the busy schedule of Dylan Groenewegen, the departure of Tom Van Asbroeck and Moreno Hofland, and Juan Jose Lobato’s focus on Milan-San Remo and the Amstel Gold Race, the Scandinavian should have his chances at Le Samyn, the Three Days of West Flanders, the Ronde van Drenthe and Nokere Koerse.

"When Dylan is there, he will obviously be a priority,” Jansen told “I will be tested in various roles, but in some of the .1 races after Kuurne, I will be asked to play my card. They trust me and want me to develop my sprint skills.

“I'm pretty happy with the way it is. If I show that I am in good shape, I may have more opportunities in the semi-classics. I'm happy to have my own chance in the small races. That motivates me even more to try to win.”

Amund Grøndahl Jansen often did so in 2016, notably at his national championships, at the Tour de Gironde (overall + one stage), at the ZLM Tour (overall) and at the Tour de l'Avenir (stage). With a fast sprint, the Norwegian is also a powerful and resistant rider who was able to take fourth at the U23 Tour of Flanders Espoirs. Hence, LottoNL-Jumbo have already added him to the team for Paris-Roubaix.

However, Jansen especially wants to focus on his sprint at the moment, especially at the start. Before being able to test himself in competition, the former Joker rider will make work for the team at the Tour of Qatar, his first race, at the Tour of Algarve and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. After the spring, he is scheduled to do his two national races, the Tour of Norway and the Tour of the Fjords.
