After two years with the team, Björn Leukemans won't be allowed to finish his carrer at Wanty-Groupe Gobert as he had hoped. The 38-year-old classics specialist has to leave his current team, according to a report in Het Nieuwsblad.
Leukemans already predicted the decision in a conversation with DH this weekend.
"I still have nothing for next year, but I would still like to do another a year. I cancstill win races," said the riders who has won Ronde van Limburg, GP Jef Scherens and Stadsprijs Geraardsbergen this year. "But Wanty Groupe Gobert does not seem to be interested. So I have to find a new team, but I still have no contact."
Sports director Hilaire Van Der Schueren indicates that it is a budget issue.
"We have to let one of the two, Leukemans or Gasparotto, go next year. We have a lot of new riders and I think our team is stronger. There are many sprinters, and sprinters win races easier."
Thus Kenny Dehaes, Antoine Demoitié and Robin Stenuit have already been signed. Jan Ghyselinck also needs to find a new employer while James Vanlandschoot will retire.
