In yesterday’s Omloop Het Nieuwsblad Philippe Gilbert, Jempy Drucker and Floris Gerts were involved in a crash which forced them to abandon the race.
BMC Racing Team Doctor Dario Spinelli has provided the following update.
“We are fortunate that despite the serious nature of the crash the injuries sustained are relatively minor. Beyond the usual road rash, Gilbert is ok and has returned home as planned as he was never scheduled to line up today at Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne.
“Drucker has a deep cut in his right hand but is fit enough to line up this morning. Gerts required a metal stabilizer for his little finger but he too will compete today at Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne.”
“We will continue to monitor their condition at today’s race and beyond.”
In an unrelated matter, Rick Zabel will not be starting at Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne due to a virus.
“The best thing for Rick to do is to rest over the next few days and he should be fine to line up for Le Samyn during the week baring any complications,” Dr. Spinelli said.
