Arthur Vichot could not mix it up with the best in the sprint won by world champion Michal Kwiatkowski (Etxx-Quick Step) at the finish of the Amstel Gold Race.
Despite being in the main group at the bottom, the FDJ leader was unable to make it into the group that sprinted for the win.
"All day, I did not have good legs," he said. "It was the same for Laurent Pichon," added sports director Martial Gayant who refuses to be pessimistic.
"It was a blocked race with six breakaway riders who got ten minutes and the peloton gradually returned without really raising the pace. When they clearly accelerated in the finale, the difference were very clear. You needed to have good legs and we didn't. Maybe our riders have paid a bit for the fact of not having done the Tour of the Basque Country but I think Amstel will allow them to do well in Flèche Wallonne and especially in Liège-Bastogne-Liège which suits them best. La Flèche and Mur de Huy is still one for puncheurs."
