Wanty went into their final race, Nationale Sluitingsprijs, with the intention to ride for sprinter Roy Jans. However, the Belgian lacked support in the finale and had to settle for 7th.
The Nationale Sluitingsprijs is the last race of the Belgian road season. In Putte-Kapellen the peloton faced eight tours of 22,4 kilometres. Belgian champion Jens Debusschere won the race for the second year running. Roy Jans finished seventh for Wanty-Groupe Gobert.
“Unfortuntely we didn't have any rider in the 10-man breakaway today," Jans said after the finish. "That wasn't good because the team had to work hard to bring the breakaway back. It was a very fast and therefore hard race. In the sprint I hardly had any teammates left to support me."
For Jans this seventh place means his 26th top-ten of the season. The sprinter also won two races. Today, more should have been possible, he gathers.
“Only Tim De Troyer and Frédérique Robert were with me in the last kilometre. Robert took me to the 800 metres mark and then Tim went untill 500 metres from the line. But then I found myself in the wind. I really missed some riders in that final."
