Despite the five Astana team positive drugs tests in the last few months and Brian Cookson, UCI President, saying that the team would have the licence commission look at their WorldTour status, 2014 Tour de France winner Vincenzo Nibali doesn’t see there being any issues with his team remaining in the WorldTour.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Nibali said: “I only know what has been written in newspapers and websites, I know no more. It’s easy to take aim at the big teams – it is what has happened to Sky. But I do not think there will be big problems for the license. Meanwhile, my plans do not change.”
The Licensing Commission will decide in December if Astana deserve to have their license renewed. If they don’t, Nibali and co will have to find a new team for 2015 if they want to ride the biggest races.
