Speaking at the Tour de San Luis to reporters, Vincenzo Nibali says he may lead Astana at the Giro before supporting Fabio Aru at the Tour de France.
“Riding the Tour in support of Fabio [Aru] is a possibility. We’ll see,” Nibali said. “I could do important work for him.”
Nibali’s deal with the Kazakh team is up at the end of the season and the Italian has been rumoured to Trek-Segafredo, Lampre-Merida and even with starting his own team. For now, Nibali says he is letting his manager deal with everything.
“My manager is involved in the contract talks. I’m thinking only on training and racing,” Nibali said. “But some teams have asked if I might sign with them next year. Also, Astana made me an important offer. Right now, we are in January, so there is plenty of time to decide.”
