Matej Mugerli (Adria Mobil) has denied Luka Mezgec (Giant-Shimano) the chance to add the Slovenian road race championships to his growing palmares. The former Liquigas rider won today's 214 edition of the event while Mezgec had to settle for second.
With Luka Mezgec in their ranks, Slovenia has one of the future top sprinters and the Giant-Shimano rider went into today's national road race championships as the obvious favourite. It wasn't to be though as it was one of the country's veterans that came away with the title.
Matej Mugerli was once a WorldTour rider at Liquigas but has now settled for a continental career with Adria Mobil. Today he beat Mezgec into second to take the biggest victory of his career since he won a stage at the 2006 Volta a Catalnuya.
Kristjan Fajt completed a good day for Adria Mobil by taking third.
