Having joined the Astana team, Moreno Moser will be starting a new chapter in his career.

Regarded as the future of Italian cycling at the beginning of his career in 2012, Francesco's nephew went through a difficult period in 2014. Since then, the 25-year-old has bounced back as shown by his bronze medal at the European Time Trial Championships. Even though he has not yet delivered resounding performances like he did at the Tour of Poland (2012) and Strade Bianche (2013), Moser seems more serene and now demonstrates a nice consistency. In 2016, he was close his first stage victory in a Grand Tour, both at the Giro (two podiums) and at the Vuelta (a podium).

Moser who will turn 26 on Christmas Day, intends to continue his progress, but one thing is already certain for 2017: he will be an important domestique for his compatriot Fabio Aru.

"I do not know what to expect, but surely the move will be a big change for me,” he told Tuttobiciweb. “The team knows how to work to achieve great results, both in the Grands Tours and the other races which are numerous, so there will be opportunities for everyone. My program is roughly similar to that of Aru, except for the start of the season. I will start the Tour of Algarve while he starts 2017 at the Tour of Oman, but after that, we will meet again to start the build-up to the Giro.”

A few weeks ago, Michele Scarponi also announced that he will follow the Sardinian leader in 2017.
