Daniel Moreno (Katusha) was looking to complete a Flèche Wallonne/Liège-Bastogne-Liège double yesterday after his win Wednesday at the Flèche Wallonne but a crash just before the Saint Nicolas climb ruined all chances of a repeat win and Moreno had to settle for 52nd.
"I was really unlucky today,” Moreno said after the race. “I crashed before Saint Nicolas and I couldn't put my handlebar the right way up, so I lost a lot of time there. I'm sure that without that accident we would have been two Katusha riders at the front of the race [the other being Joaquím Rodriguez], and maybe we could have obtained a different result. It's a pity because it could have been the perfect epilogue of this incredible week."
