World TT champion Tony ”Panzerwagen” Martin showed his great skills as he won the last stage of Vuelta al Pais Vasco, which was a TT. Alberto Contador finished 7 seconds after the German and was able to hold on to his lead in the GC. Here are more reactions from the last stage of the race:
Astana DS Giuseppe Martinelli whose best rider in the final GC is Mikel Landa (14th +03:36):
“Landa is a young, strong rider who showed in the group stages what a promising talent he is – we came to Pais Vasco with the best intentions, and raced well – and our best results remain ahead of us.”
Caja Rural rider Omar Freile who finished on top of the final podium in the intermediate sprints qualification (88th +1:00:35):
"In the time trial I struggled to find a steady pace, but gradually I found a better tempo and I finished well. I went out early and arrived safely at the finish line. I sat the fastest time, but you know it will not last long. I finish the stage with a good feeling. I started on the wrong foot though. In the last couple of days I've found a good feeling. The Caja Rural Seguros RGA-was visible and tried to go in the breakaways every day. Allergies and heat stroke made it hard for us in the start. But we were catching and recovering moral feelings and we finished well.”
