Luca Mezgec of Giant-Shimano won his third stage in Volta a Catalunya and showed why he is one of the biggest sprint talents right now. Mezgec managed to get over the last climb of the stage and Contador was reeled and the stage was settled for a sprint, which Mezgec won. Here are more reactions from the stage:

Astana DS Alexander Shefer whose best rider in the GC is Jakob Fuglsang (12th +01:00):

“Scarponi is our main rider for this race, and we expect the battle for general classification to come on Sunday, with a mountain finish – the main competitors all finished with the same time as Michele in the morning stage, and the separation after the time trial is just a second or two – so we expect big fireworks tomorrow”

FDJ.fr DS Yvon Madiot whose best rider in the GC is Thibaut Pinot (14th +01:20):

"There were nine riders in the front group, but one of them, the Dutch Kruijswijk (Belkin) was quite dangerous in the GC and has been a source of contention. "

"Although he was surrounded by his teammates, Thibaut began the climb well placed. He is concentrated, but his form is not satisfying yet. He needs another eight to ten days in order to reach a good form.  He is 14th in the GC, but we want to make it a top 10. Tomorrow is reserved by the sprinters, but Sunday will be a good day. The riders have to ride the Montjuïc climb eight times.”

CCC Polsat Polkowice rider Lukasz Owsian who is 122nd +36:37 in the GC:

“Our strategy for this race has not changed. We are looking for the opportunities at the start of the stages. On the stage of today, there were numerous attacks, but the peloton wasn’t looking to let anybody go, until my group was formed. Unfortunately, the cooperation in the escape was not going as I had expected. It did not increase the chances of success of our escape. Actually, two riders of the group attacked: Marcus Burghardt and George Preidler. The closer we got to the finish line, the lesser chance we had of winning. Anyway, I gave it everything.
