Bjorn Leukemans (Wanty) won an aggressive edition of the GP Jef Scherens which was decided by a big 40-rider breakaway. Below we have gathered another two reactions from riders who have been interviewed by Directvelo.
"It was a tough day," third-placed Mark McNally said. "We gave everything. The condition was still good. Today, I was up against a Wanty Groupe Gobert team that was stronger. I could not follow the attack of Bjorn Leukemans. In the final stretch, the rider from Verandas Willems [Dimitri Claeys] came back to me. I gave everything. In the end I finished on the podium. It is a beautiful result that ends a good week for me. "
"We quickly took off with 40 riders," sixth-placed Gaetan Bille told Directvelo. "We were surprised by the attack of Wanty so far from the finish. We had the legs to follow but we hesitated. In the end, we made a mistake since Leukemans won. We attacked in the final with two riders to try to catch them. We were just 150 meters behind them, but we were too far away from Leukemans. I rode for Dimitri [Claeys] who is faster than me in the sprint . Finally, we lost today, but we had the legs. I am sure that we are more or less at the same level. I hope we can achieve a better result in Druivenkoers-Overijse on Wednesday."
