2014 is almost over and many riders are enjoying a period of well-deserved rest after a long and demanding season. Matteo Montaguti needs a bit of rest more than most. The Italia Ag2r rider has been active throughout the entire season, riding from the Tour de San Luis to the GP Beghelli and doing two grand tours, the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France.
Montaguti's year has been hard as he has been fully dedicated to his teammates but still found some room to chase some personal success.
"For me, 2014 was more than positive because I did two Grand Tours and did both pretty well," he told Spaziociclismo. "In both, we won the teams classification which means I was part of a team at the highest level. I took great satisfaction from the results in the Giro and the Tour. Early in the year I was close in Camaiore [where he finished 2nd] and that made me hope but unfortunately I was unable to take the win that I have been chasing for so long. Overall I will say that the season has been great."
Montaguti has been riding for Ag2r for four years and also in 2015 he will be defending the colours of the French team in which he feels at home.
"The team has confidence in me and I'm fine here" he said. "This year we have been one of the best teams in the world for the first time. In 2015 we want to be at the same level because it would be a great satisfaction. Personally I always chase the victory that would fill me with confidence and pride."
