"I'm disappointed about my Vuelta so far, I had expected it to be better. I am not so far down on GC yet that I can't still get a good overall result though. As of today there are several opportunities for me to attack."

Stage nine in La Vuelta is another hilly stage. The peloton will start at 13h23 in Cistierna and after 164.5 kilometres they will arrive on a climb of second category: the Alto del Naranco in Oviedo. During the stage the riders have to overcome 5 categorized climbs. After sixty kilometres, the riders will face the first one, which is a climb of second category and is called the Puerto de San Isidro. After the descent of this climb, there are three climbs of third category. First there is the Alto de Santo Emiliano, then the Alto de San Tirso and the Alto de la Manzaneda. The finish of the stage is on top of the last climb of the day: Alto del Naranco. This mountain is 5.7 kilometres long and has an average gradient of 6.1%.

Maxime Monfort talks about his Vuelta so far and his chances today.

"I'm disappointed about my Vuelta so far, I had expected it to be better. I am not so far down on GC yet that I can't still get a good overall result though. As of today there are several opportunities for me to attack. The second week of the Vuelta should suit me very well. I just have to take risks and join breakaways, maybe already today. I don't know the climb where we finish today but it will be less steep than yesterday's climb."
