It was an unfortunate finale for Lampre-Merida in the fourth stage of the Tour of Turkey. The stage was dominated by a 5-rider break that was caught with 11km to go.
In the run-in to the final climb, a crash brought down Lampre-Merida's Sacha Modolo, Xu Gang, Chun Kai Feng and Mario Costa. Only the Portuguese rider was suffered bad consequences, obtaining a big wound on his elbow. Nonetheless, he managed to reach the finish. Taken to hospital with team doctor Beltemacchi, he was got a suture.
Modolo returned to the group with the help of the teammates but the effort cost him on the final climb where he was dropped.
Now the reins for the sprint were given to Roberto Ferrari who sprinted to a fine 6th with the support of Richeze and Durasek.
"Today we were unlucky to have a crash with Modolo and his teammates in the finale. I liked the union of the guys who were in the front group to fight for the race, Ferrari and co. They worked to the best of their ability, getting a good result in the top 10 which is very respectable," sports director Bruno Vicino said.
In the overall standings there were no major change, with Durasek remaining 2nd, 7 seconds behind Rebellin.
