Bartlomiej Matysiak has brought the Polish champion's jersey back to the CCC Polsat team by finishing off a dominant showing by the squad in today's Polish road race championships. Having arrived at the finish with Pawel Franczak (Active Jet), he made use of his fast sprint to take his first title.
During the last year, Michal Kwiatkowski (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) has proudly worn the Polish champion's jersey in the biggest races of the world but when the Tour de France kicks off on Saturday, he will be back in his usual team kit. Today Bartlomiej Matysiak took the jersey off his shoulders by winning the Polish road race championships.
The crucial action happened at the midpoint of the race when Marek Rutkiewicz (CCC) launched an attack and when the dust had settled, a 16-rider group had emerged. Kwiatkowski was not there but his teammate Michal Golas had made the selection alongside no less than 6 CCC riders.
Maciej Bodnar (Cannondale) made a solo bid for glory in the finale but the CCC riders combined forces to bring him back and a 9-rider group with 3 from CCC emerged. From this group, Pawel Franczak and Matysiak escaped and the latter had no trouble beating his companion in the sprint while Michael Podlaske (Active Jet) completed the podium.
