Michael Matthews is currently competing in Canada at the Tour of Alberta. The Orica GreenEDGE rider did his comeback after taking a five-week period to recover from broken ribs at the Tour de France in July. He is aiming to win a stage on this 2.1 stage race. He would like to improve his shape to be at the top during the next UCI Road World Championship held at the end of September in Richmond.
"The last five weeks since the Tour de France have been about just trying to recover as much as possible for the last part of the season," Matthews told during the press conference before the team time trial.
He is back at the competition at the Tour of Alberta. There are potentially three stages for the sprinters: stage 2 in Grande Prairie, stage 5 in Spruce Grove and stage 6 in Edmonton. "I had a good training camp leading up to the Tour of Alberta this year. We hope to have a good start with the team time trial (his team finished second in the same time with the first Trek Factory Racing). The team is looking really good and we hope to get some good results this week."
