According to the ActiveJet Team official website, exceptionally talented Spaniard Mario Gonzalez Salas has signed a two-year contract with the Polish Continental squad. The 21-year old cyclist is an under-23 National Champion in Road Race, as well as he was the best Spanish rider of his age category against the clock in 2011.
“I am very thankful to the team for putting a trust in me and giving me a chance for further development. I’m going to work hard to prove it was a right decision. I am a versatile rider, I feel comfortable in trials against the clock, and thus I’m hoping to fit in easily. I’m looking forward to my first meeting with new teammates,” Mario Gonzalez said on ActiveJet official website
The 21-year old Spaniard, previously riding for Café Baqué – Conservas Campos team, confirmed his talent in racing against the clock by winning National Championship in junior category in 2010, and as an under-23 rider in the following year. Last season he has added a title in Road Race to his impressive palmares, as well as bronze medal in time trial in the same category. Apart from numerous National championship successes, Gonzalez has won one stage and the youth classification at Vuelta al Bidasoa this year.
“I’m convinced that Mario is a great talent. I hope that while racing in our team, he will fully develop his skills. First few starts in Spain as a kick-off of the season, where he will face the tough competition from World tour cyclists, should be challenging. It needs to be emphasized, that in the 2014 season he still competes as an under-23 rider and I’m sure that he’s going to shine in this category in the international arena on several occasions. The two-year deal we have offered to his should serve as a testimony of the trust we had put in him,” added Piotr Kosmala, ActiveJet sports director
