There is controversy in the Italian camp after yesterday's sprint at the Tour de San Luis. Jakub Mareczko beat his teammate Elia Viviani to win the final stage.
Riding for the Italian national team, Jakub Mareczko was set to lead out his teammate Elia Viviani in the final stage but he ended up beating his captain in a photo finish. Viviani refused to attend the podium ceremony.
Now Marezcko defends his actions.
"No doubt, I'd do it right away," Mareczko tells Tuttobiciweb. "The terms were clear: when they invited me to come here to San Luis, they told me that I could play my cards. I came here to train, to race and to win. Otherwise I would not have come and I would have been at a training camp with the my teammates. I'm sorry to have created controversy, but I repeat that I would be ready to do it again."
