Ulissi on Thursday, Cunego on Friday and Malori on Saturday – thus reads the hat trick in Coppi e Bartali for Team Lampre-Merida.
Adriano Malori was the favourite to take the 4th stage, a time trial of 14.3 km in Crevalcore, and he did not fail to deliver, recording the best time, covering the course in 16'14", 14" and 16" better than the Vorobyev (2nd) and Moser (3rd) respectively.
"It's never easy achieve victory when you're the favourite, but today I was really willing to end a series of missed successes, some of them by only a few seconds” Adriano Malori explained. “Vorobyev, Under 23 world time trial champion, lashed out a very good performance, so I needed to be perfect. I started very well and I was able to increase my pace as I went along. I must also thank my masseur, Fabio Della Torre, who supported me using Tecartherapy in order to cure a sinusitis I had suffered from since Milan-San Remo".
