The twelfth stage of this Giro, between Imola and Vicenza (190 km), starts on flat roads, but there is a tricky finale with finish on a fourth category climb. Something for the punchers or can a rider from an early breakaway take the victory?
“This is a typical stage and finale to attack," Lotto Soudal sports director Bart Leysen sai.d "I expect numerous teams will have riders who want to get in the break of the day. If they get a considerable advantage, they have a chance.
"The other option is that a reduced peloton arrives at the bottom of the last hill. Then I think about riders like Matthews and Visconti, who is from Vicenza and has already won here in the past. It definitely won’t be a real bunch sprint. I don’t think a photo finish will be necessary to determine the winner.”
