In the first half of today's Vuelt a Esana stage the riders will cover two categorized climbs of third category. After the feed zone the route goes up and down again. Just like yesterday the stage ends with an uphill finish, this time on a second category climb of 11.2 kilometres with an average gradient of 4.8%. The finish is situated on a cliff with stunning view over the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.
Lotto Soudal sports director Mario Aerts says:
“Yesterday a rider from the breakaway managed to win the stage and also today that’s a possibility. If there is a relatively large group the escapees stand a chance of staying in front until the finish. This could be a day for Sander Armée or Adam Hansen to join the break. Today’s last climb isn’t as tough as the one of yesterday. There won’t be too large time gaps. Bart De Clercq did very well yesterday on a finish that doesn’t quite suit him. He’s in a good shape, that’s for sure. Of course the peloton will be reduced on that last climb. If the break doesn’t make it Alejandro Valverde has a big chance of winning.”
