Today, a short but very hard stage is scheduled at the Tour de France. The riders have to climb six mountains. After the last summit it's still 14 kilometres to the finish. It will be a very important day for the GC riders, but also the breakaway may have a chance to stay ahead.
Lotto Soudal sports director Herman Frison shares his thoughts.
“In my opinion, this stage will be a battle on two fronts. During the first hour, a lot of riders will try to get in a large front group that isn't a threat to the GC riders. Although I expect that teams like Movistar and Astana will want someone to represent them at the front of the race. Sky won’t make themselves nervous and they will adjust the pace to the best placed rider in the break. Other expected names are Majka, Navarro, Nibali, Pauwels, Rui Costa, … These riders have already been part of a large breakaway during this Tour.
"This day is also very important regarding the KOM classification. If Thomas De Gendt is able to be in the right break and he manages to obtain some points, he will have a big chance to take the polka dot jersey to Paris.”
