The city of Bern did not bring any luck to the Lotto Soudal riders. In the penultimate stage of the Tour of Switzerland, four riders left the race. The Belgian formation was halved in one stage.
Jasper De Buyst, Jürgen Van den Broeck and Kenny Dehaes were the first to step off the bike. Van den Broeck is struggling with an inflamed saddle sore and wanted not to compromise the Belgian TT championships.
Maxime Monfort was forced to abandon after a heavy crash thirty kilometers from the finish.
"I want to reassure everyone," Monfort said. "I am relatively well. I lost control of my bike and hit my head. I'm a little dizzy and have abrasions on the back, but it is not too bad."
Lotto Soudal have just four riders for tomorrow's time trial: Jürgen Roelandts, Vegard Breen, Thomas De Gendt and Sander Armée.
