Greg LeMond has told German newspaper BILD that he believes Jan Ullrich should return his Yellow Jersey from the 1997 Tour de France. It emerged a few years ago that Ullrich used performance enhancing drugs such as EPO to win his Tour.
“For his entire life he will have to come to terms with what happened in his career,” LeMond said. “I said it this way about Floyd Landis and Tyler Hamilton: You have to live your whole life with a lie. That is damned hard.”
LeMond won the last of his three Tours in 1990. He is currently working as an ambassador for Eurosport after being brought back into cycling after the media shunned him when he first accused Lance Armstrong of doping.
