At the Etixx-QuickStep presentation in Spain, manager Patrick Lefevere briefly spoke about the tax evasion case that is hanging over his head. "I still do not feel that I have done anything wrong," he tells Sporza. "And I have not become any richer by that."
"I'm not a hypocrite. I recognize that the Special Tax Inspectorate conducted an investigation and we have people who do their work," Lefevere responds but he refuses to go into detail.
"What I want to emphasize is that I do not believe that I did something wrong. I do not even know what the accusation is more precisely.
"I just want to say again that at one point some riders didn't join our team because they were unwilling to sign image contract. It was that simple.
"And I still do not feel that I have done something wrong and I have also not become any richer by that. If you wanted to keep people in the team, and the whole cycling world did that, you had to have such image contracts."
"Maybe i should one day have an ad in all papers telling how much I have paid in taxes during my life. It is much more than Inbev," Lefevere claims.
