Today's Tour of Austria stage started at a very high speed and many groups attempted to get an early lead. CULT Energy Pro Cycling was present in all of them.
However after 85 KM a group of six (Rémy Di Gregorio (Marseille 13 KTM), Yoann Paillot are (Marseille 13 KTM), Adrien Petit (Cofidis), Mirko Selvaggi (Wanty – Groupe Gobert), Quentin Jauregui (AG2R La Mondiale) and Clement Koretzky (Team Vorarlberg ) managed to get clear and build a 4 min gap over the peloton.
The attackers were kept at a close distance by the peloton led by Team CCC and therefore the group soon gave up.
After 125 KM, a new attack followed lead by Grischa Janorschke (Team Vorarlberg), Lukas Pöstlberger (Tirol) and Johann Van Zyl (MTN – Qhubeka). The attackers built up a 2 min lead. Soon after, a massive crash in the peloton caused the race to be neutralized. The race was started again leaving only 20km to the finish line.
Johann Van Zyl won the stage. The South African attacked in the last kilometers and finished 40 seconds ahead of the rushing peloton.
Cult sports Director Andre Steensen:
“It was a very chaotic race and the neutralization of the race with only 20km left to the finish line, strongly unbalanced the race. Romain Lemachand and Gustav Larsson were involved in the accident and we are uncertain whether Romain will be able to continue as he has hurt his back.”
Troels Vinther finished today’s stage in 19th.
