In the first part of the season, Lampre-Merda have not yet raced in Spain. The team will make up for this from March 23 to 29 when the team will be at the start of the Volta a Catalunya.
The blue-fuchsia-green team that will be directed by Orlando Maini and Simone Pedrazzini, will rely on Mattia Cattaneo, Kristijan Durasek, Roberto Ferrari, Tsgabu Grmay, Ilia Koshevoy, Przemyslaw Niemiec, Jan Polanc and Rafael Valls.
The courses in Catalunya will be demanding so the sprinters won't have a simple way to try to achieve good results. However, Lampre-Merida will still rely on Roberto Ferrari whose qualities will make competitive in the 1st and 6th stages which could be for the fast riders.
The sport directors will ask Koshevoy, Cattaneo and Grmay to ride aggressively, with a focus on breakaways and on domestique roles.
In the mountain stages, Niemiec, Durasek and Valls will be protagonists and they also hope to be in contention for the overall classification.
There will be no pressure on Polanc who'll be back to racing after he recovered from the fracture of the scaphoid bone that he suffered in a crash at the Dubai Tour.
