Lampre-MERIDA has announced the names of the nine riders who will take part in the Giro d'Italia .

 

The announcement was made ​​by team manager Brent Copeland at the headquarters of Fred Mello, sponsor and official supplier of clothing for the team.


The selection for the Pink Race of an historical team as LAMPRE-MERIDA is characterized by the right mix between the Italian tradition and internationality, between the experience and the dynamism of the young riders.

 

These are the names of the nine riders that will be at the start in San Lorenzo al Mare: 
- Roberto Ferrari : 32 years old, Italy, 4 participations, 1 stage victory in the Giro d'Italia, sprinter. 
- Tsgabu Grmay Gebremaryam : 23 years, Ethiopia, debutant in the Giro d'Italia, climber. 
- Sacha Modolo : 27 years old, Italy, 4 participations in the Giro d'Italia, sprinter. 
- Manuele Mori : 34 years old, Italy, 6 participations in the Giro d'Italia, fast rouleur. 
- Przemyslaw Niemiec : 35 years old, Poland, 4 participations in the Giro d'Italia, climber. 
- Jan Polanc : 22 years old, Slovenia, first participation in the Giro d'Italia, climber-rouleur. 
- Maximiliano Richeze: 32 years old, Argentina, 2 participations in the Giro d'Italia, sprinter. 
- Diego Ulissi : 25 years old, Italy, 3 participations in the Giro d'Italia and three victories in the Giro d'Italia, fast climber. 
- Gang Xu : 31 years, China, debutant in the Giro d'Italia, rouleur

 

The riders from Team LAMPRE-MERIDA will represent 6 different Nations (Argentina, China, Ethiopia, Italy, Poland and Slovenia) and 4 continents(Africa, America, Asia and Europe). The average age is 29 years.

 

Niemiec is expected to target the GC and he will be able to rely on Grmay and Polanc in the mountains and Xu and Mori on the flats. Modolo will be supported by Richeze and Ferrari in the sprints while Ulissi will target stage wins like last year when he took two impressive victories.
