LAMPRE-MERIDA reached Belgium relying on a team with a very fast speed to try to win the Bruxelles Cycling Classic. The 200,8km Belgian race with 13 hills was won in a photo finish, but unfortunately no riders from the Italian team were involved in the battle for the top positions.
Sacha Modolo was best in 43rd after his team had worked hard to bring back the early break.
LAMPRE-MERIDA demonstrated good team spirit and especially Mario Costa, Feng and Xu Gang managed to lead the trio of sprinters Bonifazio-Ferrari-Modolo to the front positions in the run-in to the finale climbs. The blue-fuchsia-green team was ready to face tje tricky run-in to the Belgian capital when the bunch broke in three parts and Ferrari and Modolo managed to stay in the front group.
Ferrari led his teammate in the position behind the lead-out train of Boonen with 500m to go, but Modolo had not enough power to be competitive in the uphill sprint.
