On the third stage of the Tour of Denmark, Patrick Konrad scored the third Top10 result for Bora-Argon 18. The 23-year-old Austrian was able to break away with eight other riders from the already reduced peloton at the start of the final laps.
The nine riders established a lead of almost a minute, that they were able to keep to the finish line. The final laps proved to be particularly difficult with a slope of more than 11%. Before tomorrow's individual time trial, Konrad moved into the 8th place overall, led now by Lars Ytting Bak (Lotto Soudal).
"We knew that it was going to be the hardest stage today. As expected, a small group went clear, which was controlled by Astana. Later Tinkoff Saxo made the race really hard, resulting in a split of the field. We focused our race tactics on Patrick, Gregor [Mühlberger] and Björn [Thurau]. Björn and Gregor just barely missed the jump into the first group - Patrick managed it. He rode very well in that group and he also made the next split, where only nine riders remained in the lead. He has done really well and he always rode in a good position on the tough finishing laps. The seventh place is a very good result for him and maybe we even can improve tomorrow in the time trial", Steffen Radochla, Sport Director of Bora-Argon 18, summarized the third stage.
