Jure Kocjan (1984) has been provisionally suspended for an adverse analytical finding for EPO in a sample collected in 2012. It is a new retroactive punishment as in the cases of Michael Boogerd and Giampaolo Caruso.
The International Cycling Union (UCI) has recently re-analyzed samples that they had kept for reanalysis with new detection methods and using new scientific developments.
The International Cycling Union (UCI) has added Kocjan to their list of provisional suspensions after they found EPO in a sample taken on March 8, 2012, one day before playing in the Dutch classic Dwars door Drenthe. At the time he rode for Team Type 1-Sanofi which is now known as Team Novo Nordisk. One year later, he joined Euskaltel-Euskadi.
He has previously been riding for Radenska (2005-2007), Perutnina (2008), Carmiooro (2009-2010), Team Type 1 (2011-2012), Euskaltel-Euskadi (2013) and Team SmartStop (2014-2015) and is now with Lupus Racing Team. He is a fast rider and last year he won a stage of the Tour of Utah.
Last August Caruso team was provisionally suspended by the UCI for a positive EPO test that he returned in an out-of-competition control in 2012. Boogerd, a former Dutch rider who retired in 2007 who worked as sports director Roompot in 2015, was suspended for two years in January "for anti-doping rule violations committed during his cycling career."
