Stefan Küng will return for the BMC Racing Team Sunday at Vattenfall Cyclassics, three months after breaking his back in a crash.
The reigning world individual pursuit champion and winner of a stage of the Tour de Romandie and the Volta Limburg Classic said he is more than ready to return to competition.
"I am very, very happy to be racing again," Küng said. "Rehabilitation and re-building training went well, or even perfectly. I am looking forward to the end of season. I want to thank everybody who helped me on my way back. I had amazing support from family, friends, doctors, physiotherapists and from the team. Everyone contributed to my fast return."
Küng suffered a compression fracture of his T9 vertebrae when he crashed with two others in the last 25 kilometers of a stage of the Giro d'Italia won by his teammate, Philippe Gilbert, on May 21st.
Joining him on the BMC Racing Team's roster are recent Arctic Race of Norway stage winners Silvan Dillier and Ben Hermans, along with Eneco Tour runner-up and Tour de France stage winner Greg Van Avermaet, Tour of Austria stage winner Rick Zabel and past world road champion Philippe Gilbert, who has four wins to his credit this season.
Sunday's 250-kilometer WorldTour race begins and ends in Hamburg, Germany.
Roster:
Silvan Dillier (SUI), Campbell Flakemore (AUS), Philippe Gilbert (BEL), Ben Hermans (BEL), Stefan Küng (SUI), Dylan Teuns (BEL), Greg Van Avermaet (BEL), Rick Zabel (GER).
