Moreno Moser won't race the Milan-Sanremo, scheduled for Sunday, due to a pain in his left knee caused by an insertional tendinopathy to the quadriceps muscle. Paolo Longo Borghini will take his place in the Cannondale Pro Cycling team.

 

The Italian rider already suffered a sore knee during the Tirreno-Adriatico and as a precautionary measure he didn't take part in the last stage. On Wednesday he underwent orthopaedic examination with reassuring results.

 

Unfortunately this morning, during the last heavy training before the race, the pain got worse again and team medical staff chief, Dr. Roberto Corsetti, in agreement with Moser and team management, has decided to stop the agonistic activity and to give the athlete a rest period of ten days.

 

"I'm really disappointed that I'm forced to renounce Milano-Sanremo, one of the Classics I love most" said Moser. "I raced the Tirreno-Adriatico also to prepare this race in the best way. The bitterness is strong, but in this moment I can't take any risks to compromise the rest of the season. There are other important events in my schedule and I want to be at the top. I'll do everything I have to recover and to be able train at my best as soon as possible".
