A few days after winning the time trial, Gert Joeaar (Cofidis) made the double at the Estonian road championships when he won yesterday's road race. The time trial specialist beat Rein Taaramae (Astana) in a two-rider sprint while Endrik Puntso won the sprint for third 2.03 later.
Gert Joeaar has twice finished second at the Estonian road race championships but after he won the time trial a few days ago he was confident that he would have a chance to break his drought on the 183.2km course in Vändra. He again put his good form on show by claiming a maiden title.
The country's three main riders Joeaar, Rein Taaramae and Tanel Kangert were all at the start and it came down to a battle between the former two who decided the win in a sprint. Here it was the Cofidis rider who came out on top while Kangert rolled in at the back of the first bigger group that was led home by Endrik Puntso for third.
Joeaar hasn't been selected for the Tour and will have to wait a little while before he gets the chance to show his new jerseys.
